Accessories by the new Sony Ericsson
Accessories by the new Sony Ericsson

Written by Kinny Cheng

Although most of us have heard about the Sony Ericsson brand of products, there has not yet actually been a product out that carries the companyís new brand and logo - with the exception of some products that may just have the manual or stickers bearing this new name.

But, finally, it seems the wait is over! With the announcement of Sony Ericssonís new range of handsets to be available in both GSM and CDMA markets in the following two quarters of this year, a set of accessories to complement the new handsets is definitely a must. Two new Bluetooth products, the HBH-30 headset and the HCB-30 car handsfree, have been designed for use mobile phones that have built-in Bluetooth - not restricting to just mobile phones made by Sony Ericsson. In addition, a new CommuniCamô MCA-20 will also be available.

These accessories are just starters of things to come for the new brand.

Bluetooth Headset HBH-30

Adapting similar styling and technology from the previous two Ericsson Bluetooth headsets (HBH-10 and HBH-15), the HBH-30 has been given a facelift, a slightly larger ear frame (for the headset to sit comfortably on a userís ear) and repositioned buttons for easier accessibility. Weighing at 28 grams, the HBH-30 can be used with a Bluetooth-enabled phone (such as the T68i) at up to a distance of 10 metres between the two devices. The headset has a maximum talk time of up to 4 hours, and standby time of up to 4 days.

Expected availability: TBA

Bluetooth Car Handsfree HCB-30

The HCB-30 Bluetooth Car Handsfree enables the user of a phone with built-in Bluetooth to utilise the phone without the need of plugging it up to anything at all. Whether the same phone is located inside a briefcase at the back of the car, or just sitting next to the driver during a drive, the HCB-30 detects the phone and immediately enables car kit functionality without any direct interaction whatsoever. The car kit can also be set to mute a carís stereo system (if compatible) when a call is received and transfers the call to the speakers instead.

Expected availability: TBA

CommuniCamô MCA-20

The new Sony Ericsson CommuniCamô MCA-20 enables a user to take full VGA resolution pictures that can be either stored or sent as part of an MMS message or email on a compatible phone. A phone, such as the T68i, can be used as a viewfinder for the MCA-20 thanks to its colour screen, and have the ability to store and send images when necessary. The camera itself is able to store up to 14 full VGA pictures or up to 200 pictures saved in QQQVGA format.

Expected availability: April-May 2002
