Motorola were one of the first mobile phone manufacturers to put Bluetooth technology into their handsets in place of the aging infrared option. It’s no surprise that they’re one of the first mobile phone manufacturers to jump behind the new audio profiles in Bluetooth v2.0 like A2DP (Advanced Audio Distribution Profile) and AVRCP (Audio Video Remote Control Profile).
In the first version of Bluetooth, the main focus was wireless audio for phone calls – which didn’t need that much bandwidth because call quality isn’t of the highest quality anyway. These profiles would only use a tiny amount of the bandwidth available in Bluetooth, with the rest left for things like file transfers, synchronizations, etc. The A2DP profile in Bluetooth v2.0 puts aside a section of the rest of the bandwidth for high quality audio streaming so music sounds more lifelike in wireless headsets like the Motorola S805. The AVRCP profile gives the user the ability to control their device – changing tracks, pausing, etc.
The S805 headphones are advertised as a “Bluetooth DJ headset”, although I definitely see more commuters using the headphones on their way to work on the train rather than for DJing purposes!
