Two Megapixel Camera Phone Comparison Two Megapixel Camera Phone Comparison

31 March 2006
Written by Albert Malik

Much time has passed since our original megapixel camera phone comparison article of late 2004, and manufacturers have had the opportunity to improve the technology used in their mobile phones. It's now early 2006, and two megapixel cameras in phones are fast becoming the norm, with 3.2 megapixel cameras just around the corner. So this time, we are proud to present our two megapixel camera phone comparison! Again, we have four contenders:

1. Nokia 6280 - 2.0 megapixel CMOS camera
2. Nokia N90 - 2.0 megapixel CMOS camera with auto-focus and Carl Zeiss lens
3. O2 XDA Atom - 2.0 megapixel CMOS camera
4. Sony Ericsson W800i - 2.0 megapixel CMOS camera with auto-focus

We aimed to have the Nokia N70, Samsung D600 and Motorola V3x included in the test, but unfortunately didn't receive our test handsets in time. As a benchmark, we have also included the Sharp 903, presently the best camera phone available in the market (although it isn't being judged against the others as it has an unfair advantage). It has a 3.2 megapixel CCD camera with auto-focus and 2x optical zoom. Finally, all five phones will be compared with the Canon Powershot Pro 1, a dedicated digital camera with 8.0 megapixel CCD lens and 7x optical zoom.

For purposes of the test, all cameras were set to 2.0 megapixels and the highest quality setting they had. Auto-focus was used if the camera phone supported it, and all other settings were left at automatic. The photos were taken throughout and around Sydney city, with some stunning results in some places and not-so-bad ones in others. Indoors we compared photos taken with and without night-mode and flash LEDs, wherever the phones supported them. Read on for the review.

Nokia 5300 Xpress Music
Lets face it, the two gadgets that most people never leave home without, are the cellular phone and the digital audio player. Hence, it makes sense in combining the two devices into one convenient package...
