Introduction

Mobile Phone Insurance

Mobile phones are so common these days that it's hard to find someone who isn't carrying one while out and about. Because our mobile phones go wherever we go, they become susceptible to damage, theft, and loss.

Taking out mobile phone insurance is one way that consumers can protect their handsets against the unthinkable. Many operators have internal insurance arrangements for handset protection, and others don't provide any insurance. If your provider is in the latter group there are separate companies like MLH Insurance Brokers who offer attractive mobile phone protection services.

Let's look at a hypothetical situation where an uninsured mobile phone on a plan is stolen, lost, or damaged beyond repair. In this situation the customer becomes liable for:

- Handset repayments for the rest of the contract period (if any).
- Cancellation fees if the customer chooses to cancel the contract.
- If the phone is stolen, any unauthorized call charges before the handset was barred.
- The cost of replacing the old handset with a new one.

As mobile phones increase in functionality, so does their price tag. Having to purchase a brand new handset after the old one is lost, stolen, or damaged is therefore not a pleasant experience for the bank account!

Mobile phones are really just hand-held computers. Computers often break down – it's a fact proven time after time! Mobile phones are not the cheapest to repair, as many will already know. Paying for insurance right from the get-go might be an inconvenience for some, but if the unfortunate happens there is no undue stress or worry about having to fork out money for repairs or a new handset.

Mobile phone insurance is not expensive, and for the protection it provides, it's definitely a worth while service to take up. On the next few pages you will find the major mobile operators listed with their insurance policies (if any), and further information on how you can get your handset covered.
