The ROKR brand is alive and kicking with the announcement of the E8 – a hybrid mobile phone and MP3 player. Features include a whopping 2GB of internal memory, 2” TFT LCD display, stereo Bluetooth support and a new technology from Motorola: ModeShift.
ModeShift is technology that recognises the type of application currently in use and presents only the keys necessary to that application. This is achieved by lighting up different sections of the keypad and deactivating certain keys. The feature is particularly useful when using the music player application – all of the numerical keys are “turned off,” and the dedicated music functionality keys light up. Additionally, innovative haptics technology provides tactile response when a virtual key is pressed.
With 2GB of internal shared memory, the RORK E8 has heaps of space for your music collection. If you need more memory, the E8’s microSD memory card slot can support cars of up to 4GB in size.
The ROKR E8’s display is a 240 x 320 pixel and 262,144 colour TFT LCD. With Motorola’s FastScroll navigation wheel it’s easy to scroll through songs, contacts, and images by simply sliding your thumb – all of which look stunning the 2” LCD display.
A 3.5mm headset jack allows you to connect your own standard headphones to the E8, or if wireless is your thing there’s also stereo Bluetooth (A2DP) technology built-in. The music player supports popular formats including MP3, AAC, RealAudio, Microsoft Media Ecosystem for DRM-protected tracks, and more. There’s also a built-in FM stereo radio.
The 2mpx digital camera on the back of the RORK E8 is fairly standard, offering 8x digital zoom, a multi-shot feature, and video capture support.
A full HTML browser is pre-installed, with GPRS and EDGE data protocol supported for packet data connections on 2G networks (where supported).
The Motorola ROKR E8 is expected to hit the market in the very near future.
