Since April 2001, Sydney-siders had the opportunity to test out Coca-Cola’s unique “Dial a Coke” vending machine in Central Station. The vending machine didn’t just provide its user with the ability to purchase 600mL-bottled soft drinks via coins, which is how we usually pay. It also allowed purchase through the user’s mobile phone, where the amount payable for the drink is deducted from their mobile account - removing the need to rummage for coins!
And now, after the successful trial at Central Station, other people across the country can now get a go at this new payment concept.
If you have a Telstra/communic8 GSM mobile (if you are on Optus or Vodafone, you can't use this service - sorry!), all you need to do is:
Get to a "Dial a Coke" machine and call the displayed ‘Dial a Coke’ number
Follow the simple instructions given over your mobile phone
Select your soft drink by pressing the regular buttons on the machine
During the next stage of trialling, only Telstra Mobile/communic8 GSM post paid customers who have access to international calling will be able to access the service.
