AXIA HSDPA Multimedia STB - What's New? AXIA HSDPA Multimedia STB

09 March 2007
Reported by Angus Leung

Fifth Media announced AXIA HSDPA Multimedia STB, a convergence platform to bridge 3.5G Mobile Broadband to WiFi and Bluetooth, and to provide GSM, SIP and VoIP communication, IPTV and Media Streaming entertainment, and ePayment and PC applications.

Running on the Microsoft embedded platform, the AXIA HSDPA Multimedia STB is extremely versatile and can be used in a wide variety of applications from home surveillance to PBX systems, from in-taxi to mobile kiosk operations.

"It is a unique HSDPA setup box, reinvented with multiple voice, data communications and ePayment capability," said Yogi Babria, Fifth Media's Chief Program Officer. "We converge into a single device all the functions and desired applications required for business and home users."

AXIA HSDPA Multimedia STB will be available for demo in CeBit Hannover from March 15 to 21 in Hall 12, Booth D 23 B&C.

It supports quad-band GSM, HSDPA, UMTS, EDGE, GPRS, Bluetooth 2.0 peripherals and has a built-in 802.11g WiFi Access Point.

On entertainment it plays MP3, WMA, MPEG4 and WMV Music and Video. The SIP Server in the device supports multiple users using WiFi phones to make VoIP calls and it has the ability to transfer calls with the embedded PBX. The device can act as a payment terminal for contact (ISO7816) and contactless (ISO14443A) smart cards.

User can operate using touch screen LCD monitor or PC like functionality with regular keyboard, mouse, and standard VGA monitor.

It runs on Microsoft Windows embedded platform which offers standard Internet Explorer, Media Player and Messenger. This platform avails a host of Windows based third party applications for multiple vertical markets.
