Making mobility simple! - What's New?
Making mobility simple!
07 November 2002
Trust a network operator to make things simple for a change! :)
Well, it is true! Vodafone Sweden is planning to launch two new concepts that aim to simplify the road taken in accepting the newer mobile technologies currently within arms length. One must agree that trying to learn and adopt new technologies is like sifting through a whole heap of jargon and acronyms - which will eventually turn us off from wanting to use it irrespective of how beneficial it’s going to be at the end of the day.
The first of these is called “Vodafone Live!”. Aimed at private consumers, this service will provide its users with one-touch access to a variety of mobile media - including email, text and picture messaging, MMS, standard and even polyphonic ringtones. Other downloadable material such as news, sports, music and games will be offered in collaboration with content partners.
Given that the primary theme for the “Vodafone Live!” service is to be “simple”, this will mean taking out all the unnecessary steps in getting a service to work.
The “Vodafone Live!” service will be integrated into the sales packages of the Nokia 7650 and Panasonic GD87 handsets. These handsets were chosen because they both offer a built-in camera, colour display and icon-based navigation system - and with the mandatory capability of maintaining a permanent GPRS data connection with the network.
Once purchasing the specific handset, accessing the “Vodafone Live!” service can be done straight away by using the interface integrated onto the phone. All the required network settings have been preloaded as well.
Moving onto a product for corporate customers, the Vodafone Mobile Office concept aims to provide a range of voice and data services that will simplify the way communications is done while outside the office - not restricting to geographical boundaries of course.
Imagine you were in the UK, and you wanted to access the company intranet which is located in Sweden. The Vodafone Remote Access service, the first service to be offered in the Vodafone Mobile Office suite (with more to follow later), will allow you to do this simply and securely - as well as having the ability to access email, the Internet, and other business information from virtually anywhere.
Both the “Vodafone Live!” and Vodafone Mobile Office services will be launched by Vodafone Sweden before Christmas. As for other Vodafone operators around the world and their plans to take up similar concepts, this is yet to be seen. But stronger trends in greater mobility and more superior data handling on mobile networks will certainly be some of its drivers.
